JAN GRABOWSKI’S IRRESPONSIBLE ACCUSATIONS OF POLES MURDERING 200,000 FUGITIVE JEWS

This line of attack on Poland goes like this: Some 2.5 million Polish Jews were still alive in 1942, at the formal start of the German-made Holocaust. 10% of these Jews, that is, 250,000, fled the German-made ghettos. Only 40,000–50,000 of them ended up surviving the German occupation of Poland. Therefore, the remaining 200,000 must have been denounced or killed by Poles.

Zychowicz points out the flaws in all points of this line of attack. To begin with, according to some estimates, many more than 40,000–50,000 fugitive Jews survived the occupation. The 10% Jewish-escape rate is conjectural. (p. 230). An unknown number of Jews were denounced or killed by Volksdeutsche (Polish-speaking Germans), Ukrainians, and other non-Poles living on Polish soil. (p. 229). An unknown fraction of Jews died from suicide or wartime misadventures.

Accusations against Poles are done in a Judeocentric contextual vacuum, where Jews were really the only victims and Poles were just spectators or bystanders. They most certainly were not. The brutalities of the German population had driven Poles to abject poverty, causing them to loot the belongings and bodies of murdered Jews. (p. 213, 224). The demoralization of Poles led to alcoholism, banditry, and a sense that all lives (Polish and Jewish) were very cheap. (p. 224).

Piotr Zychowicz does not mention the fact that Poles killed Jews for legitimate reasons–such as Jewish banditry, involvement in the GL-AL Communist bands, or (more commonly), simple fear of collective German reprisals for aiding fugitive Jews. However, he does mention the fact that some Jews (and their Polish benefactors) were denounced by other Jews, out of spite (p. 216), or from being later tortured by the Germans. Finally, and not mentioned by Zychowicz, as per the “Polish complicity in the Holocaust” line, there is no evidence that any Pole who killed a fugitive Jew did so out of agreement with Hitler’s objective of destroying European Jews.

THE POLICJA GRANATOWA (POLISH BLUE POLICE)

Zychowicz reminds us that members of the Blue Police were never issued machine guns. They only got pistols, and every bullet had to be accounted for. (p. 289). Those ruling over them, with few exceptions, were always Germans. In addition, the Germans had contingency plans to incarcerate the entire Blue Police force in the event of a Polish national uprising. (p. 289).

EXCUSES FOR JEWISH COLLABORATION: THE ONE ABOUT STRATEGIC SURVIVAL

Some Jews say that Jews serving the Nazis did so as part of a strategy to survive the Nazis by obeying them. (This is a variant of the line about fear-of-death, and choiceless choices.) Sounds nice, but it is contrary to the facts. Fact is, Jews were collaborating with the Nazis from the very beginning, long before Nazi exterminationist goals against Jews were even conceived, let alone implemented! Consequently, a Jew serving the Nazis could not possibly have done so out of a fear of his life, because no such fear existed at the time. Zychowicz does not mention this.

However, Zychowicz brings up some conduct that contradicts the save-one’s-life exculpation for the conduct of the Jewish ghetto police. Was kicking a Jewish beggar part of some survival strategy? Or was it the outworking of a strategy of survival to demand bribes from smugglers, and from individuals hiding from the Germans? Was engaging in massive shakedowns from ghetto night clubs, whorehouses, or gambling houses a form of survival strategy? (p. 196).

THE DYNAMICS OF JEWISH COLLABORATION WITH THE NAZIS

The author cites Jehoszua Perle (Iehoshua Perle), a well-known prewar Jewish writer, for his scathing denunciation of Jewish collaboration. He said that it showed the “terrible rottenness of the Jewish population”, and added that “Such levels of denunciation are not seen among the Polish population.” (p. 161). He inveighed against Jews working for the Gestapo, and against Jewish ghetto policeman who, despite their high education, were savagely beating some Jewish children for stealing a piece of bread.

Jewish Gestapo agents were especially valuable to the Nazis. They knew Jewish ways better than anybody else, and could readily unmask fugitive Jews. (p. 365).

HOTEL POLSKI–NOT A FRAUD?

The author cites Jewish author Agnieszka Haska and her Jestem Zydem, chce wejsc. (pp. 340-on). She contends that the Nazi-sponsored Hotel Polski affair was a genuine German offer to ransom some Jews, and not simply a trick to lure Warsaw Jews out of hiding. Had the Nazis wanted to expose fugitive Jews merely in order to kill them, there would have been no need for them to send these newly-surfaced Jews to transit camps in German-occupied western Europe. In addition, Haska suggests that more Jews would have been saved had foreign nations “adopted” more of these Jews, leading to their removal from Nazi-ruled Europe. For more on Hotel Polski, see:
